AN AMISH POSTCARD Brother Ezekiel was on sabbatical over the recent holiday season, visiting our home town of Leola (near Lancaster, PA). While in a convenience mart in town, he came across the postcard below depicting 5 Amish youths racing wooden carts, which the adults used to call a "kinner karich," (literal translation: child cart). The photo was taken by a tourist visiting Lancaster named Vincent Tortora. We have decided to post it here as it is the only photograph we are aware of that depicts us as children, as the use of cameras by Amish folk is forbidden. In fact, there isn't even a word for "camera" in the Pennsylvania Dutch language!
